Media: New Zealand put fishing boats under camera surveillance. Will it stay the course?

Environmental publication Mongabay has published an in-depth and well-balanced story looking at New Zealand’s on-board camera fleet several years after its rollout.

It features the insights of several inshore fishers, including Karl Warr and Mike Terry Sr, who said:

“It’s good to be able to show people what’s going on, because there’s a lot of misinformation out there about bottom trawling. Having the cameras there shows what you’re catching, what sort of gear you’re using, how many discards you’re doing, which is pretty good.”
