Commercial fishing operators and workers are being surveyed about safety behaviour, along with those working in other high risk sectors, in a New Zealand-wide research project called Working in New Zealand 2017.
Operators and workers are to be selected randomly and surveyed by Nielsen, an independent research company, from now until Christmas. Maritime NZ encourages anyone approached to take the time to complete the survey, which is being undertaken in partnership with Worksafe NZ. Designed to explore the health and safety practices in the country’s high risk sectors, the other industries being surveyed are construction, manufacturing, agriculture and forestry.
Maritime NZ spokesperson Tere Scotney says “every response is valuable. The results from the fishing sector will help Maritime NZ to develop its health and safety campaigns and guidance material, and inform discussions with operators”.
