Tribute to the Late Peter McKinnon

TRIBUTE TO PETER MCKINNON FROM THE NZ FEDERATION OF COMMERCIAL FISHERMEN

Peter was a fisherman who always represented the rights of all commercial fishermen throughout the country. His extensive experience and his forthright nature meant that he was widely respected throughout the NZ fishing industry by individual crew members through to the senior management in the corporate fishing companies.

Peter was deeply involved in the industry in many areas outside of his own fishing business. He took particular interest in furthering the education of fishermen through his participation in the Seafood Industry Training Organisation and FISHSAFE as well as his own role as Executive Secretary of the NZ Fishing Industry Guild and the scholarship programme that the Guild sponsors.

The Federation of Commercial Fishermen respected Peter for his work with fishing crews and acknowledges that he will be sorely missed. He has contributed much to the welfare of fishermen in this industry and for that he will be remembered.
